Storm waiting

In recent days have transpired two documents that reveal the internal discussions that occur in the Cuban government media: speech Karina Brown, assistant director of the newspaper Granma, in the Sixth Plenum of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), and letter of protest of the journalists who make up the base committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) in the Villa Clara newspaper Vanguardia.
In his speech, Brown announced that "we are putting together a perfect storm" in the country, mentioned the danger of a social explosion as the Maleconazo, he discusses the role of the press to a threat of this kind, and also drain young journalists from newsrooms of officialdom. This last point focuses the workers ' protest Vanguard, against political censorship and in favor of greater professional freedom.
Both the speech and the collective letter concerned the place where you will find each of the journalists on the island the coming storm. In the words of Karina Brown fear off the popular reaction against cuts oil and energy, and fear not count this time with such a strong leader Fidel Castro as it was during the Maleconazo.
It is not unreasonable to assume that these same fears exist in instances repressive regime, which will be arming themselves for the storm. And meanwhile, for Cubans one summer begins in even more miserable conditions. The prospect of a new "Special Period in Peacetime" gets its way even into the more open US and the world that Cuba has counted more than half a century.
Resorting to police repression and media censorship, the regime would be fighting only the consequences of the crisis. The causes for birth storms will remain standing while reforms rather than depth, follow apelándose to greater restrictions and cutbacks.
