"The reelection of China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia - regimes that systematically violate the human rights of its citizens - casts a shadow on the reputation of the United Nations", the executive director of UN Watch, Hillel Neuer "he said.
The NGO UN Watch, based in Geneva, rejected the inclusion of Cuba among member countries of the United Nations Human Rights Council announced Friday.
"The reelection of China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia - regimes that systematically violate the human rights of its citizens - casts a shadow on the reputation of the United Nations", the executive director of UN Watch, Hillel Neuer "he said.
Brazil, China, Croatia, Cuba, Egypt, Hungary, Iraq, Japan, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, United States and the United Kingdom were appointed to ensure human rights in the world for 3 years from the first January 2017.
However, UN Watch was quick to welcome the decision of the countries excluded from this advice to Russia.
"Non choice of Russia shows that the nations of the world can reject the gross abusers if they wish. This makes the choice of Saudi Arabia, China and Cuba even more absurd , " Neuer said.
"The choice of Saudi Arabia of the UN as a world judge of human rights as a city is collecting a pyromaniac be the fire chief , " he said.
The organization led a campaign this year by a coalition of non - governmental organizations to oppose the reelection of Saudi Arabia, Risiam China and Cuba, as well as the selection of Egypt, Iraq and Rwanda, through influences governments, online petitions, high profile events parliamentarian, press conferences, university lectures, YouTube videos, and opinion pieces in the Washington Post and other major newspapers.
"Unfortunately, neither the United States nor the European Union said a word about the hypocritical candidacies only undermine the credibility and effectiveness of the UN Human Rights , " Neuer said. "By turning a blind eye while human rights violators join and subvert the council, the leading democracies are complicit in the moral decay of the world body".
The Foundation for Human Rights in New York, also said the government in Havana as unfit to judge other countries on the topic of Human Rights, it does not allow free and fair elections, carries out systematic political arrests, violent dissent, and it limits the exercise of journalism and freedom of association.
The International Federation for Human Rights, based in Paris, saw the vote in favor of Cuba as an encouraging step and highlighted the Caribbean island received the most votes in the General Assembly for Latin America.
" We hope that Cuba is not allied countries like Saudi Arabia, China or Egypt, which are not those who promote human rights , " said the representative of the Federation, Stephanie Daves, to journalist Carmen Maria Rodriguez, Radio Marti.
